Islay Research Day, August 15, 2015
In the morning, George Caldwell, the BC Genealogical Society's Scottish Group faciliator will be on hand to assist researchers, especially with Scotland's People, the Scottish government website for Parish Registers, Civil Registration, Census and more.
At 1 pm, Dr. Katie McCullough, Director of the Centre for Scottish Studies at Simon Fraser University, will be speaking on “Building Scottish Networks in the Diaspora: Past and Present.” Her talk will include the Centre's 'Scots in BC' (British Columbia, Canada) project.
Volunteers will give tours of the Library and the Scottish and Canadian collections as needed. Check our the BC Genealogical Society's website to learn more about the Society's own Walter Draycott Library. A map with directions is on this BCGS.ca page: http://www.bcgs.ca/?page_id=87
Bring a lunch or visit a cafe nearby. There will be coffee, tea and light refreshments available.
